When your child has a cavity or needs treatement
Our friendly Business assistants will greet you with a smile and answer any financial or insurance questions you may have.
Next, the Dental Assistant will bring your child to the room where the treatment will take place. We respectfully request that parents and guardians remain in the reception area during this visit for their own safety, as well as to allow Dr. Symone and the Dental Assistant to begin building a trusting relationship with your child. This will promote pleasant visits in the future, as your child will learn that going to the dentist is not scary. Parents are welcome to look in on your child during the visit, but we do ask that you allow the Doctor and assistant to remain in control of your child's attention.
If we are planning to administer Nitrous Oxide during treatment for your child's comfort, please remember that your child should not eat or drink anything for a minimum of two hours prior to the appointment. This is important because nausea and vomiting can occur if Nitrous Oxide is administered when there is food present in the patient's stomach.
When we administer anesthesia for treatment, your child will experience numbness in areas of their mouth that are being treated. This can be uncomfortable and somewhat scary for the patient, especially the first time they experience the lack of feeling in their lip, tongue, or cheek. With parental permission, we will give your child a Popsicle before they leave the office, as cold drinks/food help the numb areas to "wake up" and feel better more quickly. We recommend giving your child ice cream, frosty, smoothies, etc after treatment with anesthesia for this very reason, and most children to do not object! When the numbness begins to wear off, it can give the patient the feeling of "pins and needles" which again can be uncomfortable, and cold will speed the process along faster.
Please follow all of the post operative instructions given to you, as they are important for your child's comfort and well being. If you have any questions after leaving the office, we welcome calls to answer any questions you may have.
Our main objective is to provide your child with the best dental care possible, and keep them on the path to good oral health for their lifetime. Dr. Symone's treatment recommendations are based on what is best for your child's health and well being.
We are glad to file your dental insurance claims, and will do our best to closely estimate your out of pocket expenses, however there is no guarantee of payment from the insurance company until we actually receive their check. It is possible that you will have a balance remaining after the insurance payment has been received at our office due to a limitation on your plan. Please be aware that it is your responsibility to pay for what the insurance plan does not, so we recommend that you call your insurance company before we begin treatment so that you will have a clear understanding of the limitations of your policy, and there will be no financial surprises after the claim is paid.
